Romantic Pink Dresser

I finished a really cool dresser yesterday. I didn't take a before picture, I'm really bad at that.  It was just an old oak dresser with 90's tarnished brass hardware. This dresser had some cool lines that reminded me of an old jukebox. Can you see it? Luckily I didn't go in that direction.

I don't typically go for a normal square dresser unless it has something unique to set it apart. I recently discovered Rub n' Buff and have gone a little crazy with it. I used it to add some class to the old hardware.

I painted the dresser using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Antionette. It is the perfect soft, ballet slipper pink. So feminine.

I covered the dresser in clear and dark wax. I used the real deal this time and broke out my Annie Sloan Dark Wax.

I hate to toot my own horn but this dresser is so lovely!

Vintage Yellow Dresser

Here's one for all you yellow lovers out there. A 9 drawer dresser and nightstand made all all VERY heavy wood. I think this is the heaviest dresser I have ever encountered. I can't even lift the nightstand myself and I consider myself a pretty tough cookie.

I painted this set with Arles yellow chalk paint, a brown valspar glaze and wipe on polyurethane to finish it off.

My favorite part of this dresser is its uniqueness. I love the one of a kind hardware. It has some great carving and designs.

A very sweet family friend gave me this dresser and nightstand to refinish. I never saw it before sending my hubby to pick it up. When he came home he told I was going to laugh when I saw it. I thought "oh no" what could possibly be wrong with it.

I walked outside peered over the bed of the truck and there was a perfectly good bedroom set. The ironic thing was just a week or two before I had the matching armoire that I had just sold. Isn't that how things work sometimes. How cool would it have been to have the whole matching set!

This bedroom set will be for sale in my shop. If you are interested please contact my using the above button!

Antoinette Armoire

I came across this cutie on Craigslist. I don't usually find real antique pieces for a decent price around here, I almost feel guilty for painting it. If we all paint the antiques there'll be nothing left to get real patina right?

I justified myself painting it due to an added shelf  that wasn't original. A little rippling and clearly some wood glue.  No one was rushing to buy it earlier on Craigslist as is.  I hope I improved this piece and someone will love it. .

This "armoire"? Not even sure if that's what it is, or should be called, as it is quite small. I think it would be perfect for a girls room to hold books, movies, or blankets. I could see it in a large bathroom holding extra towels, or perhaps a guest room to hold extra sheets and blankets.

I painted the base coat in ASCP Coco, then Antoinette over it. I fell in love with those colors together and really wanted to use them. I love brown with pink. Instead of sanding to give a distressed look, I chose another method. I wiped the edges with some elbow grease and a damp rag. It's a great way to distress when you paint with two colors and want the color underneath to show. I think it looks very natural, not to mention you don't have all that dust :) Less sweeping my garage floor = more time for my family!

I painted the inside in a latex mint green paint that I had leftover from previous jobs. I think it gives it a nice pop and adds a fresh look to it.

I'll be putting this up for sale in my shop Monday evening. If you have questions about it please feel free to contact me using my contact button above.

Perfect Purple Paloma

I feel like this post is long overdue! Finally, I'm back to painting furniture again. I've been busy with a few of my own projects and I am in the midst of a couple of church girls camps that have been keeping me from painting. That's not entirely true, the 107 degree weather also keeps me away from the garage:)

Here's a beautiful dresser I refinished in Paloma chalk paint. It has a lot of little detailing, you might have noticed I'm a sucker for any carving or applique. I highlighted the details with Old White chalk paint then hand sanded the corners and edges for a perfectly worn look. I didn't use any dark wax on this piece, I wanted a clean look. I originally was planning on using white hardware but I am really digging the dark color against the Paloma, it also brings out the dark wood peeping through the distressed areas.

This large and sturdy dresser will be available to purchase. You can contact me with questions or check it out in my Etsy shop.

Chair and Nightstand

What I'd give for a piece of grass. Have you noticed how lame my backgrounds are? Here in Las Vegas grass is a luxury. I refuse to have the fake astro turf that I see everywhere. When we moved into our home it had no landscaping whatsoever in the backyard. We have since built a deck, a brick retaining wall, and planted some strange buffalo grass that's supposed to be amazing for desert climate. Well, it has yet to look amazing, and until then you're stuck with lame backgrounds :)

You might have caught my last post with a similar white nightstand. White is always a wise way to go. I especially like a clean white look when there are busy carving going on.

Do you recognize this chair? It has had many looks but finally found a home. When I first got it, it was painted black, then I painted it a brick red to go with a nautical desk I refinished. Poor chair, no one wanted it. I was repainting it again and was worried the black and red underneath would look horrible with ASCP Provence. I decided I'd paint it white first and gently distress it to just show the white. I went too far in one spot and loved it. Thank heavens for mistakes. Speaking of mistakes. I finished painting and reupholstering the chair and asked my hubby if he'd screw the seat in. He decided to test the chair by sitting in it and wiggling back and forth to test it's durability. I kept telling him to stop messing around and knock it off. Somehow, he ended up breaking a leg off it while screwing the seat in. Go figure. I had to explain the situation to my client and tell her I'd find a new chair for her. Luckily she still loved it and with some wood glue and a very reduced price it's fixed! I guess it will just be for looking at and not for sitting :) Oh and be sure to check out my shop page by clicking the link at the top of my blog, I just updated it with some exciting new pieces!

Some Wine With That?

This week I had the opportunity to paint an already beautiful wine cabinet. The cabinet has beautiful carving and detail. I painted it in Paris Grey mixed with a touch of Aubusson Blue and graphite to darken it up a bit, then gave it a heavy dose of dark waxing to dirty it up.

Here is the (small, sorry) picture that my client sent me of what she wanted the finished product to look like. What do you think, is it close?

When the piece was dropped off my helpful husband wasn't home to move it. I guess I'm not as strong as I think or I had too much lotion on that day, because I couldn't move it for the life of me. I ended up knocking on a neighbor's door and asking him to move it into the house for me :) The things I do for furniture. I'm an incredibly shy person so this was like a milestone in my life. I'm sure my mom is reading this and is in disbelief.

In the next few days I'll be finishing up a piano makeover and a shabby French provincial dresser, so I'll be sharing those with you guys also.

Versailles Hutch

This past week I finished a gigantic hutch. It feels like I had this huge thing sitting in my garage forever taking up space. I found this beast at a local thrift store, and it was missing a piece of glass but that didn't deter me. I've looked through enough blogs and Etsy shops to know I can easy add something like good old chicken wire.

The hutch was flaking a bit but nothing a good scraping and some cleaning couldn't fix. The piece had great detail and carving that caught my eye immediately. I'm a sucker for a little carving.
I had an almost-full can of Versailles sitting around and no plan yet to use it. Hmmmm...what color to use with it? I went to browsing the web and noticed there weren't a lot of pictures of refinished furniture in this color. I turned to the Annie Sloan website and noticed she mentioned it can look "old world" with colors like Louis Blue and Paris Grey. I would have never thought of putting blue with Versailles, but once I read that I couldn't stop thinking about all the amazing old buildings found in Versailles. I looked at pictures of old buildings with amazing architecture and natural distressing, and I wanted my piece to have some of that feel to it.

The thought of dark waxing this piece made my arms hurt and made me want to cry a little. I chose to make my own color of glaze instead. I didn't want it to be a warm brown color, but kind of like dirt and rain had made it the color of a building in Versailles.

I love the old worn look against the clean and crisp Lois Blue. I hope to sell this piece soon so I don't have to have it in my garage any longer. This hutch is huge so you'll have to just accept the picture of it in front of the garage. I've been horrible staging lately. It seems everything has just been so heavy or just awkward to stage. My goal is to get better at it.
