Cottage Chic Nightstands

This week feels like I just can't get anything right. I must be off my game or something after vacation. I have been working on two nightstand for what feel like months since I took a break right in the middle of doing them. These nightstand came from one of the hotel casinos here in Vegas. I'm sure back in their day they were awesome but now they're saying 'tacky Vegas' look. I was fortunate to be asked to give them a new look. The top has been painted black and then silver leafed. If you have questions about silver leafing visit my tutorial here. The body of the nightstands were painted Old White and dark waxed. They were lightly distressed. I applied resin appliques to add a little something to the plain doors. Unfortunately the appliques were a little smaller than needed, so I will be applying larger ones. We'll see what its like to remove an applique, wish me luck.

I have some good news and bad news. I wasn't able to get a cheap enough shipping quote for my last armoire that I custom painted. It took about 3 weeks to get the quote to a price my client needed, and by then it was too late :( The good news is it is for sale!! Yay! Matching ASCP Aubusson Nightstand

I sold my Nautical themed roll top desk to a nice local couple here in Vegas. I can happily report it found a great home in their boy's room. Luckily for me, they were in need of a matching nightstand. I got onto my favorite website, craigslist, to find something perfect for his room.

I found this. Doesn't it look so handsome and sophisticated? I just love the nailhead trim. The nightstand was seriously filthy with this thick gray matter stuck in every cranny. I got my TSP out and and old toothbrush and went to town. Not even the tooth brush was going to cut it. I seriously would have used one of those pine tree shaped, tiny brushes that you used to clean in between your braces. Since I wore braces 7 yrs ago I didn't have one, bummer. I settled for q-tips. The inside of the drawer had a velvet like lining that was also disgusting with a lot of water damage. I pulled that out and lined it with some wallpaper that I bought at a thrift store.

Damask nightstand

So, I know I talked about having a unique coffee table ready on Friday but things have gone unexpectedly south on that project. I have been debating if I should just use the legs of the coffee table and turn it into an upholstered bench seat. The glass in the table is gone and my plan to replace it with some plywood just isn't working

I did, however, finish another kind of fun end table or nightstand. Argh...... I forgot to take before pictures of it again. It was a dark cherry stain. I refinished it using my new favorite color, duck egg blue, In Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I love this paint! It requires no primer or sanding and sticks to any surface. Seriously worth the money. It also sands smooth as a baby bum and distresses easily.

I covered it in a clear wax, then a dark wax and a clear wax again. The top is also covered in polyurethane for extra protection.
