Craft Fair

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. I always enjoy every bit of time I can spend with my family. Instead of having a relaxing weekend, I was super anxious about taking my V.T.N.E (Veterinary Technician National Exam). I've been studying every day for the past 4 months and I'm happy to announce that I passed it and can now take a very short breather.

Moving on...

Now that that is behind me, I am cranking out some awesome projects. I will be having my first booth at a craft fair EVER! It will be at Eva M. Wolfe Elementary School on December 14th. So far, I'm really excited about the pieces I will be bringing that night. I have some fancy reupholstered chairs, end tables, footstools, a couple of dressers, some cute growth chart crafts, and I've been furiously hot gluing headbands for girls. The headbands are super over the top with gorgeous feathers, flowers, and some bling because that's how I roll.

Another Verdigris Dresser

In case you haven't noticed, I love a good detailed nine-drawer dresser. If I see one on Craigslist for a good deal, I must have it. I loved all the layers and detailing each drawer had on this dresser. I really love to bring out the carving of furniture but I didn't want this one to feel too busy. I've been dying to make another verdigris dresser but was waiting for the perfect piece.

I did a few things differently on this one. I hate doing the exact same thing twice, I like to explore my creativity. I used a diffferent base metallic spray paint and even used 2 different chalk paint colors than last time. I left out the gesso/Old White step to give a more vibrant color and I did much more distressing than the last piece.

Primitive Pie Shelf

I was given a great opportunity to give a new look to a very old piece. When I first saw a picture of the piece I didn't want to paint it. I loved the old worn look. When I saw it in person I understood why it needed a new look. It clearly had a lot of work done on it and wasn't an original. The bead board doors had been replaced,  the hardware was new and the paint job looked runny.

My client just moved to Vegas and was feeling inspired to go for a Southwestern feel. I repainted the outside with a dry brush technique using Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint. I didn't want a solid paint finish. We both wanted to try and keep the integrity of this shelf as much as possible. I love the worn wood peeking through.

The inside of this cabinet got a special treatment. It went from cobwebs and clumps of stuck on dirt to clean, bright, and fresh. The inside was painted in an Arles yellow paint.

The old beadboard backing was removed, along with about a dozen rusty nails sure to cause tetanus. My husband put in new beadboard sure to last a very long time!

Herringbone Desk

I ran across this desk that had clearly been painted several times. It looked like someone had tried to strip it and sand it down but gave up. Boy, I know when I'm in that process, thoughts of giving up cross my mind. This piece had some strange rust and cement-like textures on some parts of it. I probably should have just thrown it away, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I wanted to do something fun.

I just love it! I stripped, sanded, primed, and painted. I knew I'd be using chalk paint and milk paint, but I felt the primer was necessary to hold the rust in and all those strange layers. The milk paint crackled beautifully over the primer, I wasn't even trying, it just happened and it looks awesome! The milk paint was easily chipped away with a metal putty knife. I sealed it so all the "chippy" goodness would stay on and not continue chipping.

This item is for sale in my shop, keep in mind this is not a smooth finish paint job, it has chipping, layers and peeling paint. The top middle drawer sticks a bit but the rest work like a charm.

Swedish Inspired Dining Room Table

I finally finished a table I've been working on, on and off for what felt like months. I've been "educating" myself through Pinterest, Google and Annie Sloan's website, and I'm realizing things I see and fall in love with are almost always Swedish. I think a lot of Swedish furniture and style gets passed off as French when it's not. I realize there is really nothing Swedish about the construction of my table and chairs but I really wanted to do something in the whites, light blues, and grays that remind me of Sweden. I didn't take a before picture, but it was your typical brown furniture. I took this picture in my not so lovely driveway.

 This is the kind of room I could see in my mind while painting this table. If only I had a place like this to use as my backdrop for photos :)

26 Things

I've been horrible about posting lately, it doesn't mean I've been slacking off though.I might have misplaced my camera for a few days:)  I have a few end table makeovers to show and quite a few fun projects that will be ready in the next few days.

I went to an amazing garage sale the other day and picked up a few cool end tables, here are the before and after. The tables will be for sale, so check out my shop page or etsy listing.

Yesterday just happened to be my birthday. I think maybe that's one reason I get into the fall spirit so much. In honor of my birthday I decided to do a get to know me post. I usually try to keep my family and myself very private. I debating if doing this so be supportive. I turned 26 so I'll be sharing 26 things about me.

1.I'm short, 5 1"
2. I have one child and have been debating with myself if it's time for another. I'm scared to death of having a newborn again.
3. I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints- also known as a mormon. Yes, we are christian. No, we are not polygamists.
4.I have a terrible fear of seaweed touching me when we're in the ocean.I'm sure it's a shark touching my leg. Not to mention it is stinky.
5. I never thought I'd be doing furniture makeovers. If you told me five years ago I would have laughed and though it was kind of a shallow job. (don't hate me)
6. I went to school to be a veterinary technician. At the end of Nov, I'll be taking my veterinary technician national exam to finish up what I stared many years ago.
7.I've never broken a bone.
8. I was born and raised in Utah and now live in Las Vegas. We moved her for my husband to go to dental school.
9. I would love to move to the Northwest Pacific when we're done here.
10. I love hiking and camping and anything outdoors really.
11. I love horsebackriding and prefer English riding.
12. When I'm older I dream of owning a therapeutic riding center for kids.
13. I also would love to have my own furniture shop when we are all settled down in one place.
14. I got married when I was 20.
15. I've been to Russia and Mexico ( if cancun counts)
16. I can't help but watch Dateline and other murder mysteries. I wake up in the night convinced something crazy could happen to me.
17. I recently took up jogging, I've always been more of an aerobics, Pilates kind of girl. I hated running but now I am starting to enjoy it and it's getting easier after 2 months. Did I loose any weight since jogging you ask? Why no actually, I GAINED weight, very frustrating, all muscle right?
18. I cook dinner practically every night and enjoy it.
19. I hate sewing with a passion, I just wasn't blessed with that talent.
20. I was an incredibly shy child, I got a little better once I was out of high school. I'm sure people just thought I was snobby. It is still something I have to work on. I am not the most social person.
21. I suffer from depression, off and on.
22. I got my first weimeraner in high school. I love the breed and swear to my hubby that I have to have one from here on out. They're neurotic, high energy, and have to be part of the family 24/7. They have the most human like personality to me.
23. I love the rain.
24. The most relaxing thing for me is a long walk through the "woods" with my dogs.
25. I got my first horse in 10 th grade after begging since 6th grade. My dad made me a deal, if I helped clear all the sage brush in our 1 acre yard, and rake up all the rocks, he'd rent a tractor level our yard, and put up a fence. It took until highschool but it happened. I got a BLM adopted feral Mustang for $300.( not even very ride-able at the time) I still have her to this day and she is my favorite horse.
26. I love food, I'm obsessed with watching Top Chef. I can't wait until I can grow a huge garden of my own and have fresh food all year.

Antoinette Armoire

I came across this cutie on Craigslist. I don't usually find real antique pieces for a decent price around here, I almost feel guilty for painting it. If we all paint the antiques there'll be nothing left to get real patina right?

I justified myself painting it due to an added shelf  that wasn't original. A little rippling and clearly some wood glue.  No one was rushing to buy it earlier on Craigslist as is.  I hope I improved this piece and someone will love it. .

This "armoire"? Not even sure if that's what it is, or should be called, as it is quite small. I think it would be perfect for a girls room to hold books, movies, or blankets. I could see it in a large bathroom holding extra towels, or perhaps a guest room to hold extra sheets and blankets.

I painted the base coat in ASCP Coco, then Antoinette over it. I fell in love with those colors together and really wanted to use them. I love brown with pink. Instead of sanding to give a distressed look, I chose another method. I wiped the edges with some elbow grease and a damp rag. It's a great way to distress when you paint with two colors and want the color underneath to show. I think it looks very natural, not to mention you don't have all that dust :) Less sweeping my garage floor = more time for my family!

I painted the inside in a latex mint green paint that I had leftover from previous jobs. I think it gives it a nice pop and adds a fresh look to it.
